3D Printed Jigs, Fixtures & Brackets in Nylon-CF
A lot of shop-floor hardware is machined from aluminium because that is how it has always been done, not because the load needs it. Assembly jigs, drilling guides, sensor brackets and gripper fingers often carry modest forces, and a 3D printed Nylon-CF version arrives in days instead of weeks, weighs far less and costs less to change. Here is how to tell which of your parts are good candidates.
Parts that switch well
Assembly and inspection jigs, locating nests and drilling templates, where the job is to hold a part in a known position. Soft jaws and protective fixtures that must not mark a finished surface. Brackets for sensors, cameras, cable runs and small motors. End-of-arm tooling and gripper fingers for robots and pick-and-place machines, where lighter tooling means faster, gentler motion.
What these have in common is moderate load, a need for stiffness and a shape that is awkward or expensive to machine. Printing removes most of the cost of complexity: an organic gripper finger or a nest that follows a part's exact contour costs about the same as a plain block.
Why Nylon-CF for tooling
Stiffness is what makes a fixture accurate, and Nylon-CF is the stiffest material we print. The carbon fibre also suppresses warping, so long flat jigs come off the printer true. It tolerates around 150 °C, shrugs off oils and most workshop chemicals, and the nylon base is tough enough to survive being dropped on a concrete floor.
Weight matters more than it seems. A fixture an operator lifts hundreds of times a shift, or tooling on the end of a robot arm, is easier on people and machines at a fraction of the weight of aluminium.
Where metal still wins
High loads, impacts and parts that clamp hard under a bolt are still metal territory; printed nylon is several times less stiff and strong than aluminium and can creep under constant heavy clamping. The same goes for surfaces that slide against steel all day, temperatures above about 150 °C, and fits tighter than a few tenths of a millimetre straight off the printer.
A common pattern gets the best of both: print the body of the fixture, then press in steel locating pins, bushings or heat-set inserts where wear and precision matter. You keep the speed and weight of printing while the critical contact points stay metal.
Iterate in days, not weeks
The real saving is often time. A machined fixture that turns out to need a change goes back into a queue; a printed one is revised in CAD and reprinted. Teams commonly go through two or three versions in the time one machined part would take, and end up with a better fixture.
We accept STEP files directly, alongside STL, OBJ and 3MF, so you can send the same model you would send a machine shop. The online quote prices each part from its real geometry.
Ordering for a business
Every order comes with a proper GST tax invoice, so input credit is straightforward. One-off parts are welcome with no minimum, and repeat batches are printed from the same material and settings so the hundredth part matches the first. For volumes, a set of tooling, or a part you would like a second opinion on, message us and we will quote it directly.

Frequently asked questions
Can a 3D printed fixture replace an aluminium one?+
Often, yes, when the load is modest and the job is locating or holding rather than taking heavy clamping force. For hard clamping, high loads or sliding wear, keep metal, or print the body and add steel pins and bushings at the contact points.
How accurate are printed jigs?+
Allow a few tenths of a millimetre on printed dimensions. Critical holes and locating features can be designed slightly undersize and finished by drilling or reaming, or fitted with steel bushings for repeatable location.
Do you give a GST invoice?+
Yes, every order includes a GST tax invoice. Add your GSTIN when ordering so it appears on the invoice for input credit.
Can you work from a drawing instead of a 3D file?+
Yes. Send the drawing or a sketch with dimensions and we can model the part, confirm it with you, and then print it.
