TPU Flexible 3D Printing: Rubber-Like Parts
TPU is the material for parts that are supposed to give. Where every other filament on this site is trying to stay rigid, TPU bends, stretches and springs back, which makes a whole category of parts possible: seals, grips, dampers, protective bumpers and flexible hinges.
How flexible, in practice
TPU behaves like a firm rubber. A thin printed section folds easily and returns to shape; a thick section stays fairly stiff but still compresses under load. Because flexibility depends heavily on wall thickness and infill as well as the material itself, we can tune how soft or firm a part feels by changing how it is printed, not just what it is printed in.
That is worth saying at quote stage: describe how much give you want and where, and we will set the print up to deliver it, rather than you receiving something stiffer or floppier than you pictured.
Abrasion resistance and durability
TPU is unusually resistant to abrasion and tearing, so it survives repeated flexing and rubbing that would quickly fatigue a rigid material. Parts that get pulled on, compressed thousands of times or dragged across surfaces hold up well.
It also has good resistance to oils and greases, which is why it works for workshop and machinery applications where a rigid part would be attacked or simply crack from vibration.
Typical uses and printing constraints
Common jobs: gaskets and seals, protective bumpers and corner guards, phone and device cases, tool and handlebar grips, vibration-damping feet and mounts, flexible hinges, and drone parts that need to absorb landing shock rather than transmit it.
The constraint is speed. Flexible filament cannot be pushed through an extruder quickly without buckling, so TPU parts print considerably slower than rigid ones and cost more in machine time for the same volume. Very fine detail is also harder to hold than in PLA+, so we would not choose TPU for an intricate decorative piece.

Yes, that is one of TPU's core uses. Send the dimensions or a model and we will quote it. For a sealing face, mention the surface it has to seal against so we can set wall and infill appropriately.
Why does TPU cost more than PLA+?+
Flexible filament has to be extruded slowly to avoid buckling, so the same part takes considerably longer on the machine. The price reflects print time rather than material cost alone.
Is TPU waterproof?+
The material resists water well, but whether a printed part is watertight depends on how it is printed. For a sealing application say so up front and we will print with solid walls rather than standard infill.
