Flame-Retardant 3D Printing in India (UL94 V-0 Filaments)
Standard PLA, PETG and ABS keep burning once they catch. For an electrical enclosure, a control panel insert or a guard sitting next to a motor, that is the wrong behaviour. We print flame-retardant, self-extinguishing filaments rated UL94 V-0 by their manufacturers, and this page explains exactly what that rating means, what it does not mean, and how to specify a part properly.
The two flame-retardant filaments we print
eSUN eABS Max is a halogen-free flame-retardant ABS rated UL94 V-0 by eSUN. Alongside the flame behaviour it is tougher and more impact-resistant than plain ABS, with a high heat deflection temperature, which makes it a sensible default for enclosures and housings that also need to survive handling.
Bambu Lab PC FR is a flame-retardant polycarbonate tested to the UL94-2023 V-0 standard. Polycarbonate brings significantly higher stiffness, load capacity and heat resistance than ABS, so this is the grade for parts that must stay dimensionally honest while hot, or carry real mechanical load in an electrical assembly.
Both are halogen-free or low-smoke by formulation rather than by an added surface treatment, so the flame-retardant behaviour is part of the polymer and does not wear or wash off the finished part.
What UL94 V-0 actually certifies, and what it does not
V-0 is the top tier of the UL94 vertical burn test: after the flame source is removed, burning stops within ten seconds on a vertically held specimen, and any dripping must not ignite the cotton beneath. It is a measure of self-extinguishing behaviour, not of fireproofing. Nothing here is fireproof.
The critical distinction, which parts of this industry blur: that rating belongs to the filament, tested by its manufacturer on their own specimens at a defined thickness. It is not a UL certification of your printed part, and we will not claim it as one. A printed part's real behaviour depends on wall thickness, infill density and geometry, and a sparse, thin-walled print does not behave like a solid test coupon.

We will supply the manufacturer datasheets and the exact grade used so your compliance team can assess suitability, and where a job genuinely needs certified parts we will say so rather than sell you a print.
Where these parts make sense
The recurring uses are electrical and electronic enclosures, DIN-rail and control panel components, junction and terminal housings, machine guarding near heat sources, battery and charger housings, and fixtures used around soldering or heating equipment. Anywhere a standard filament would be a liability rather than a part.
They also earn their place in low-volume and bridge production, where injection moulding a flame-retardant housing cannot be justified for tens or low hundreds of units but the flame behaviour is still non-negotiable.
How to order a flame-retardant job
Both grades need a heated, enclosed chamber and a hardened steel nozzle, and they are more demanding to print than everyday filaments, so they are quoted per job rather than priced through the instant-quote configurator.

Is my finished part UL94 V-0 certified?+
No, and be cautious of anyone who says otherwise. The V-0 rating applies to the filament as tested by its manufacturer on standard specimens, not to your printed part. Wall thickness, infill and geometry all affect real behaviour. We supply the manufacturer datasheets so your compliance team can assess suitability.
Does flame retardant mean fireproof?+
No. UL94 V-0 measures self-extinguishing behaviour: burning stops within ten seconds once the flame source is removed, and drips must not ignite cotton below. It slows and stops flame propagation, it does not make a part immune to fire.
Can I order flame-retardant parts through the instant quote page?+
Not currently. These grades need an enclosed heated chamber and careful drying, so they are quoted per job. Send us the model with your temperature and load requirements and we will price it.
Which should I choose, ABS-FR or PC FR?+
eABS Max if you want flame retardancy with good toughness at a lower cost, which covers most enclosures. PC FR when the part also needs high stiffness, higher heat resistance or must carry real structural load.
